CONCORDIA SYMPOSIUM TO FOCUS ON CLIMATE

After years of debate, a political and scientific consensus is developing that global warming is happening, and that it is being caused largely by the release of greenhouse gasses, mainly carbon dioxide, from human activity. The 2008 Faith Reason and World Affairs Symposium Sept. 16-17 at Concordia College will focus on climate change, the severity of the problem and discuss how quickly the world must adapt, what it means to this region and what can be done to fend off the damage. Scientists, theologians, economists, public policy experts, industry representatives, artists and students will participate.
Events begin at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16 with a reception and informal discussion by Concordia associate professor of Art Ross Hilgers. His exhibit, “Terrane,” focuses on the natural beauty of clay and he will discuss moving toward a sustainable process of creating art. The Opening Plenary begins at 7:30 p.m., that evening in Memorial Auditorium. For a full schedule of speakers and events: www.ConcordiaCollege.edu/symposium.
All sessions are free and open to the public. With the exception of concurrent sessions, all events will be held in Memorial Auditorium.
Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering 78 majors, including 18 honors majors, and 12 preprofessional programs.
