GUEST TUBA ARTIST MAKES FOURTH VISIT TO CONCORDIA
The Concordia College Music Department presents the fourth annual visit by guest tuba artist Dean A. Somerville in a recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23 in Christiansen Recital Hall. Somerville will be accompanied by Dr. Sarah Kahl, a member of Concordia’s piano faculty, Dr. Nathaniel Dickey on euphonium and David Kahl, Jr., a classically trained tenor vocalist.
Former tubist and soloist with the U.S. Army Band, Somerville is also a composer and arranger of music for tuba and other instruments. A noted pedagogue, Somerville studied with legendary tuba teachers Arnold Jacobs and Donald Butterfield.
Somerville will perform music by Bach, Gregson, Corwell, Butterfield and several of his own compositions. The concert is free and open to the public.
