STUDENT LECTURE EXPLORES POSTMODERNISM
Catherine Eickhoff, a senior at Concordia College will present the second lecture in the Student Lecture Series at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28 in Birkeland Alumni Lounge. Eickhoff’s presentation is titled “Filling in the Blanks: Postmodernism in Josefina Aldecoa’s Trilogy.”
Beginning in the 1970s, literature has been affected by the idea of postmodernism. In literature, postmodernism emphasizes using fragmented and discontinuous narratives in portraying a story. Eickhoff examined Aldecoa’s “Historia de una maestra,” “Mujeres de negro,” and “La fuerza del destino.” The novels portray women in Spanish society before, during, and after the Spanish Civil War. One is in oral narration from a mother, the second is narrated from the view of her daughter and the third is an internal monologue.
Eickhoff’s faculty sponsor is Dr. Mary Rice, professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
