CONCORDIA PRESENTS FUGLESTAD LECTURE ON
NEW THERAPIES FOR AFRICAN SLEEPING SICKNESS
Concordia College will present the 26th annual Professor R.E. Fuglestad Memorial Lecture by Dr. Carol Olson at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23 in the Knutson Campus Center Centrum on the Moorhead, Minn., campus. Her lecture is titled "Developing New Therapies for Neglected Infectious Diseases: African Sleeping Sickness."
Olson is senior vice president of pharmaceutical development and chief medical officer at Immtech Pharmaceuticals Inc. She has been instrumental in the development of drugs used in patients with HIV/AIDS, malaria treatment and human African trypanosomiasis (African sleeping sickness)
Immtech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is focused on developing and commercializing drugs to treat infectious diseases, and the company is expanding targeted markets by applying its proprietary pharmaceutical platform to treat other disorders.
The Fuglestad Lectureship was established in 1982 in memory of R.E. “Ed” Fuglestad, who served the Concordia College biology department for 43 years.
