CENTENNIAL LECTURE EXPLORES MEMORY FORMATION
Dr. Mikel Olson, assistant professor of psychology at Concordia College, will present a Centennial Scholars Research Lecture at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30 in Birkeland Alumni Lounge. The lecture, “The Involvement of Hippocampal Cortactin in Associative Memory Formation,” is free and open to the public.
Olson and co-presenters Katherine Randolph ’09 and Tyra Fom ’10 examined the process by which new memories are formed in the brain. Neuronal synapses change size and shape in response to brain activity and it is believed that is how new memories are formed. The trio studied the protein cortactin and its role in memory formation and will present their findings.
The Centennial Scholars Program brings together faculty and students as co-inquirers on research projects.
