ART EXHIBITION OF IMAGES FROM SUDAN AT CONCORDIA

An art exhibition by photographer Deb Dawson will be on display Wednesday, Nov. 5-Friday, Dec. 19 in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery, Concordia College. Dawson captured stunning images of villagers from Duk Payuel in southern Sudan in “African Soul, American Heart:Images of Duk Payuel, Sudan.”
Her work is part of a passionate effort by people from the Fargo-Moorhead area who, inspired by the story of “Lost Boy” Joseph Akol Makeer, have collaborated as the organization African Soul, American Heart to raise awareness and funds to build an orphan center. Makeer will discuss his story and the project during the public reception 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 in the gallery. Makeer’s discussion is at 5:30 p.m. The reception will also include Sudanese music and traditional African food.
The gallery hours are 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For more information call the Art Department at (218) 299-4623.
