Concordia English professor and author W. Scott Olsen flew a small aircraft across North Dakota July 18, setting a world aviation speed record. Olsen's flight was from Williston, N.D.. to Fargo to set the National Aeronautics Association “Speed Over A Recognized Course" record. Olsen is an adventure author who has used other flights in which he was a passenger, such as a Hurricane Hunter flight and Lifeflight, as material for a previous book, “Hard Air.” He recently earned his pilot’s license and will make this solo flight a part of his next book, “Never Land."
